We are very proud to welcome back The Master Gardeners and their popular Gardening Seminar series (located in the Landscape Pavilion, where the Landscape Design Competition takes place - south end of the fairgrounds, near the Butler Entrance). Attend one of their seminars and see if they can help you with any plant problems or questions. They specialize in those issues that most concern Valley gardeners, i.e., water conservation, sun-loving plants, etc.

Friday, March 5th
12:00 pm “Wonderful World of Roses” by Master Gardener Sue Kendall and Immediate Past President of the San Joaquin Valley Rose Society
Come meet a “Roseaholic”! We will talk about loving roses and general rose care. Our National Flower is the rose, so let’s learn about it.
2:00 pm “Iris Gardening Tips” by Master Gardener Bill Beal of the Fresno Iris Society
Iris blooms are spectacular and iris plants are a very easy garden addition. Learn about the selection, cultural needs, blooming periods and care of this diverse species.
4:00 pm ”The “How-to” of Home Composting” by Master Gardeners Michael Harman & Ron Vivian
Compost is the garden’s best friend. Learn the “let it Be” casual method or the “gourmet, I want it now!” approach. They both work and you’ll make your plants happy, spend less money on fertilizers and spare the landfill.
5:30 pm “Get Rid of Those Weeds” by Master Gardener Maggie Courtis
Learn a system of weed management for your lawn and garden planting beds. Learn how to integrate a variety of methods that are environmentally sound as well as effective.
Saturday, March 6th
11:00 am “Grow Your Own Vegetables - It’s Worth IT” by Master Gardener Janet Cangemi
By following the 10 Rules of Gardening, you can successfully grow vegetables in containers, your yard, a community garden or even larger if you have the space. Learn about ‘cool season’ and ‘warm season’ vegetable gardening and what grows best here.
1:00 pm “Let’s Look at Lavender” by Master Gardener Valerie Welk
When we consider our water situation in the Valley and what plants to grow, lavender should be at the top of the list! Come learn about this drought-tolerant, aromatic, sun-loving and useful herb. Tropics will include cultivation and care, history of usage, culinary uses, and crafts.

The right tree in the right place will add value to your property and quality to your life. Find out how to select a good tree, make the best choice for your needs, and care for your tree to keep this long-term investment beautiful and healthy.
5:00 pm “Growing Orchids for the Home and Garden by Master Gardener Mary Crotts and Don Leming, President, Central California Orchid Society
Learn how and where to grow exotic orchids in the home and garden. Topics will include tips on watering, fertilizing and light requirements for spectacular blooms. You will learn about the most common and easily grown orchids for the Central Valley.

Recent trends in California gardening include water conservation and sustainability - explore ways to incorporate native plants into your updated garden.
1:00 pm “The Art of Topiary ” by Master Gardener Joanie Finch
“Learn how to choose the perfect plant for a topiary, how to train it and maintain it. Learn about the care and requirements for a variety of plant materials for our climate. Many samples of topiaries will be available to see.”
3:00 pm “Helpful Hints for Low Maintenance Gardening” by Master Gardener Jackie Mogan
