MINI LANDSCAPE COMPETITION

The Third Annual Mini Landscape Competition returns big time as a part of our garden-based features. Fresno Shows introduced the competition in 2008, and the venue has proven to be one of the most popular sites at the Home Shows. Based on our Central Valley Art of Landscape (CVAL) Design Competition, the kids are now invited to compete in their own "Mini Landscape Design Competition" (The Mini).

Children between the ages of 5 and 18 have been encouraged, with the help of their teachers, to put together mini-landscapes that will be judged by professional landscapers. There will be a first place winner for each age grouping within The Mini; high school students will qualify for a scholarship award.

To get started, each student, or group of students, receives a $15 gift certificate to purchase all required soil and plant materials. The landscape theme is "open", so the children's imaginations can really go wild. They decide on a theme, plan it, then plant it! They will also be responsible for watering and maintaining the landscape/garden until show time.

The competition will be held Friday morning (March 5th, 2010) at 9:00 a.m., before the Fresno Home and Garden Show opens. All entries will remain on display at the Mini area located in the Landscape Pavilion/CVAL Competition venue (near the Butler Entrance, south fairgrounds). Be sure to drop by and get a peek into what the future of landscaping in the Central Valley. Passing the torch (or maybe the backhoe?)
